Our senior Inspector Roland Fivaz, was called out to assist this South American Iguana, that had obviously escaped from a nearby house. It could also have been abandoned on purpose, when it became too difficult to keep.. It ran into someone's house in Empangeni, causing such commotion, and fear to people in the house that they tried to lock the animal out - As they did so, they slammed it's tail in the door, injuring it rather badly. The animal was treated and moved to a rehabilitation centre.

Note how dehydrated the reptile is. Just another example of why exotic animals should not be kept as house pets. If you would like any information on exotics please contact our Senior Inspector at the SPCA on 035-7929129 |

What do you do with those unwanted newspapers, and magazines ?
The large orange recycle bin, has been moved from SPAR, and is now situated at The Shell Garage, Assegai Motors on Kerk/Old Main Rd. Please use this facility for all your unwanted newspapers, papers and magazines. The Management of Assegai Motors, Empangeni has very kindly allowed us to use their premises for this purpose, and the Empangeni SPCA will benefit from all revenue generated from your recycled papers......
Please help us to keep this area tidy and do not place anything other than paper in this bin - When it is full, the bin will be collected and weighed and the money will be deposited to our SPCA account.
Just another easy way to support your local SPCA...... Dont forget that we also collect empty cartridges that also bring us in much needed funds.. That collection point is at Kenarts in Union Street Empangeni.
