South American Iguana

Our senior Inspector Roland Fivaz, was called out to assist this South American Iguana, that had obviously escaped from a nearby house. It could also have been abandoned on purpose, when it became too difficult to keep..
It ran into someone's house in Empangeni, causing such commotion, and fear to people in the house that they tried to lock the animal out - As they did so, they slammed it's tail in the door, injuring it rather badly.  The animal was treated and moved to a rehabilitation centre.

Note how dehydrated the reptile is. Just another example of why exotic animals should not be kept as house pets.
If you would like any information on exotics please contact our Senior Inspector at the SPCA on 035-7929129
